About Me & How I Work
Everyone deserves to experience good mental health and wellbeing in their lives. For many reasons people fall into problematic life patterns in their efforts to cope with various stressors they experience throughout their lifespan. Today’s fast pace, high stress environment adds to life stressors and we are turning more and more towards seeking professionals to help us achieve a sense of mental wellness and contentment. I provide a confidential, non-judgmental, and change-focused approach to helping people make lasting improvements with the problematic life patterns they experience. I am a chartered clinical psychologist and have been providing psychological therapy both within government health systems and privately for over 20 years in Australia and the United Kingdom. I now work solely in private practice. My approach to therapy is integrated, which allows me to tailor treatment to the individual once a thorough formulation of their difficulties has been completed. The formulation is very important for deciding collaboratively with my clients whether treatment will include components of several types of therapy, or whether we focus solely on one therapy. My areas of speciality are in trauma, anxiety disorders, affective disorders (such as depression and bipolar disorder), and personality disorders and I work with people aged 18+.
Areas I Work With
I offer individual therapy for most difficulties people face, including: • PTSD, Traumatic Stress Reactions and Complex Trauma • Phobias • Social anxiety • Panic attacks • Agoraphobia • Low mood/depression • Bipolar disorder • Stress • Anger • Self-esteem issues • Relationship/interpersonal difficulties • Chronic pain • Emotional instability • Problematic life patterns • Bereavement This is not an exhaustive list and I also provide: • Long or short term therapy • Assessment and formulation only
I qualified with a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology in Australia in 1998 and have worked as a clinical psychologist since 1999. My training was predominantly in cognitive behavioural therapy. I am fully registered as a practitioner psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and am chartered with the British Psychological Society (BPS). I am also a member of the EMDR UK and Ireland Association, the International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST), and the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP). In 1999 I completed DBT certification training in Leeds and Harrogate and ran a full DBT program within the North Somerset NHS Mental Health Service. When I moved back to Australia in 2002 I set up and managed a full DBT treatment program within the mental health service where I worked. I moved back to the UK in 2008 and became an accredited practitioner in EMDR in 2014. I became certified as a Schema Therapy practitioner in 2015. Over the years I have completed training courses in Compassion-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness-Based CBT and Psychodynamic approaches to therapy. I have completed many and varied clinical/therapy workshops and receive regular clinical supervision as part of my ongoing professional development. I provided training workshops in DBT for psychologists and psychiatrists all around Australia, as well as running workshops on appropriate and sensitive care for alienated youth for service providers within Western Australia. I also ran workshops for mental health practitioners in the West London NHS Mental Health Service on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.
